Bubble Bob: Trendy Voluminous Bob Style Guide

The swooshy hairdo of the season.

Many online magazines have given the bubble bob different juicy titles. From the chicest cut to the cutest crops, even a rounded cut, and I can totally picture the style to be these names because of how gorgeous it looks.

Bob hairstyles have taken center stage, with new styles taking over every week. This time, it is the bubble bob, and we are enjoying its season.

It's been the talk of the town, trending online with everyone trying the look. Many celebrities also aren’t left out, turning it into their own and looking chic in them like 90s superstars.

Bubble Bob

I spotted the bubble bob on Zendaya, and I didn’t know when I blurted, “Go, girl”. Oh yes, the bubble bob gives you that chic effect. But not only on this queen, but also on Kerry Washington, Megan Fox, and Hailey Bieber.

The look has garnered much attention on social media, which is why I’d like to check it with you. I already took a lot of time to look at the bob and learn more since I just couldn’t look the other way. Smiles.

So, if you’re also intrigued by the look and want to know about the bubble bob, check out what I’ve discovered in this post. I’ll inform you about everything you need to know about this gorgeousness.

What is the Bubble Bob?

The bubble bob is a trendy, ‘90s-inspired bob cut. It is popular for its volume, roundness, and layers. Many would agree with me that this is a bob style similar to other bob haircuts, however, with more bounce and a bubble-like round shape.

It is a look that has your roots really voluminous, then bouncy in the middle with layers that create a swishy effect.

What is the Bubble Bob

While many may assume that it is created by just getting a cut, it is not so. It is actually mainly determined by how it’s styled. The bubble-like shape of the look is achieved with a brush that’s used to swoop the ends to make them curve inwards. That's why I'll say the bubble bob is a subtle, graduated bob style that’s airy and floaty.

I remember how it blew up after Zendaya rocked it for the Louis Vuitton fashion show and when Hailey Bieber showcased her short bubble bob online. Now, it's been everywhere ever since, and you can say it’s totally worth it.

Who Does the Bubble Bob Look Good on?

Who Does the Bubble Bob Look Good on

Although the bubble bob works best with medium to thick hair and suits those with oval and heart-shaped faces more, anyone can rock the bubble bob.

So, everyone.

I doubt there’s anyone the bubble bob won’t look good on. That’s because it is adjustable to suit every face shape and features, and can be tweaked to work with any hair texture. I guess this versatility contributes to why it is blowing up so much. I’ve already seen many variations of the look online. And you can make it work with your hair,  too. You could add curls or make them look more relaxed.

Talk with a Stylist

No matter your hair texture, the bubble bob is achievable. But make sure to discuss the details with a stylist. Ask about what’s best for your hair texture, face shape, and features. You could also go through the details on how your style will turn out and what vibe it’ll give.

My take? I’ll recommend that those with fine hair incorporate invisible soft layers to their style, and those with round face shapes go for longer bobs that sit just below the chin to elongate their face.

A good chat with your stylist will help smooth out all these details, and once the look is tailored, you’ll get the version that suits you best.

The bubble bob can be adjusted to add volume to fine hair and softened to suit certain facial features.

How to Style a Bubble Bob?

The goal here is to create a round shape and bubble-like look. So, whether you have curly or straight hair, make sure to create some movement and body before tucking the ends with your brush.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to create this look by themselves at home. You can visit a salon with your hair inspo (I’ll be listing a few bubble bob hair ideas later in this post) and request the look.

Getting your hair cut will be the first thing your stylist will do once the process begins. This is to achieve the desired length (around your chin) before the internal layers, which gives it the bubble shape.

The focus will be on getting the roundness of the look. But what I love the most about the bob is that you can even switch between styles. I’ve seen many people use other bob styles, like the classic bob cut, to create this look. You can also go for another bob style after rocking the bubble look because, as I said before, it’s mostly dependent on how you style it, not the cut.

Once your hair is ready, your stylist will get into styling. Go ahead and wash your hair with a good hair shampoo, then follow up with your conditioner. The next thing is to partially dry your hair, then add your styling products (volumizing lift spray or mousse), and use your brush to achieve the look.

Make sure to blow-dry with a round wooden brush, then wrap the ends of your hair under. Afterwards, you can use your velcro hair rollers or hot rollers to set the shape and finish it up with your hairspray.

Note: The products you’ll be adding to your hair while styling depend on your hair texture or what version of the bubble bob you want to achieve. Those with fine hair may also need to use a volumizer apart from the hair mousse.

How to Maintain a Bubble Bob?

I’ll be totally honest with you, the bubble bob needs styling to hold its shape. It can easily lose its “bubble,” but the secret is to maintain it with your round brush and styling products.

Some of your friends for the whole time you’ll be rocking the look will be your volumizing products, a round wooden brush, some hair rollers, and hairspray.

If you can make use of these tools well, your style will look amazing. Don't forget that you can also rock other bob styles in between or wear the bubble bob more naturally. What I mean by more naturally is that you can air-dry your hair, then tuck the ends with your wooden brush. That’s it!

But on days you want a long-lasting volume, use your round brush, a blow dryer, and hair rollers.

You can follow these quick steps when you want to style :

- Apply a mousse or a lift spray all over your hair. This will dampen your hair and ensure it doesn’t lie flat.

- Next, blow-dry your hair with a round wooden brush, flipping your hair upside down and focusing on the root for added volume. Make sure to also curve the ends inwards to create the roundness of the bubble bob.

- Use your velcro rollers or hot rollers to set the volume of your bob. This makes the volume last longer, too.

- Finally, apply hairspray to perfect the style.

Going for a trim after four to six weeks will keep the ends perfect without turning outwards.
